This Science Talk offers an introduction to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on their relevance to cities. Participants will explore the origins, purpose, and current status of the SDGs, including how they were developed and what they aim to achieve by 2030. Emphasis will be placed on SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, alongside the interconnectedness of other key goals such as climate action, good health and wellbeing, clean water and sanitation, energy, and equity. Supported by global case studies, this presentation illustrates how local actions align with global ambitions. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the SDG framework, the importance of city-level leadership, and practical strategies for advancing sustainable urban futures.
