Drawing on the concept of water bankruptcy, this side event will examine how the overexploitation of water resources, degradation of freshwater ecosystems, and depletion of natural water capital are pushing many regions beyond sustainable limits. Bringing together government officials, international organizations, Indigenous Peoples, youth, civil society, and academia, the event will explore priorities for a new water agenda. Discussions will highlight the role of universities, and research institutions in bridging science, policy, and practice, advancing scientific cooperation, and supporting transboundary water regional cooperation as a platform for dialogue, trust-building, and water diplomacy, helping shape solutions grounded in science and shared responsibility.
Further information, including the detailed concept note and agenda, will be provided in the coming weeks.
