A new UNU-IAS video offers guidance for policymakers on integrating landscape approaches into National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). Landscape approaches apply a holistic perspective to landscape management to balance societal and environmental objectives. NBSAPS are strategies that Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) develop for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity.
UNU-IAS organised consultation workshops and side events at the CBD Geneva meetings in March 2022 to develop a manual that will help policymakers integrate landscape approaches in NBSAPs. The manual will be published in 2023. It has been developed through a research project conducted by the Secretariat of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative, which is hosted by UNU-IAS, with the support of the CBD Secretariat and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan.
The video complements the manual and aims to support decision-makers in developing NBSAPs and enhancing capacity for their implementation.
The video is available on the UNU-IAS YouTube channel.
