On 15 October 2026, AERA DIGITAL, an Asahi Shimbun news website, published its annual university rankings. In the research impact category, UNU ranked first in two categories: the number of citations per paper and the percentage of international co-authored papers. The rankings measure research impact of universities in Japan based on data provided by Elsevier, an academic publishing and analytics company.
