The Climate Change Competency Framework for Educators (C3FE) was developed to translate climate change education (CCE) goals into effective teaching and learning, draws on internationally acclaimed frameworks and identifies needed competencies that are globally relevant yet locally adaptable. The C3FE framework addresses the gaps in the global CCE landscape by covering educators across formal, non-formal and lifelong learning contexts. It provides a coherent, educator-focused structure to build the capacity of educators and to support effective teacher training for quality CCE.

The C3FE framework is structured around five core domains that are designed to support educators in navigating the complexity of CCE by clarifying:

  1. What to teach
  2. How to teach
  3. How to care for learners
  4. How to assess, and
  5. How to support action

The C3FE was developed with support from the Ministry of Environment of Japan and Korea Environment Corporation.
