On 24 August 2026, Tokyo Shimbun, a leading Japanese newspaper, published an article on a UNU-IAS event featuring the popular science communicator FISH BOY - Sakana-kun. The event explored the impacts of the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake and heavy rains on the region’s biodiversity and ecosystems.
The article highlights how children and their families who attended the event learned about local species and their ecological resilience.
It also features expert comments by Sayako Koyama (Research Associate, UNU-IAS) on the region’s rich wildlife and community-led post-disaster recovery efforts.
