On 6 March 2025, The Indian Express published an article co-authored by Anupam Khajuria (Research Fellow and Academic Associate, UNU-IAS) and Choudhury Rudra Charan Mohanty (Environment Programme Coordinator, UNCRD) on the adoption of the Jaipur 3R and Circular Economy Declaration (2025–2035). The declaration is a commitment by countries in Asia and the Pacific to promote sustainable actions and circular economy over the next decade.
The article argues that the success of the declaration depends on how countries implement the principles of 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) and circular economy through concrete policies and tangible changes for communities in the Asia Pacific region.
Excerpt:
The goals of the Jaipur Declaration are ambitious but achievable. The declaration is a call to action for all stakeholders, including governments, businesses, civil society, and individuals to embrace the principles of 3R and circular economy and work towards a common goal of a sustainable future. Nevertheless, the success of the declaration rests on how countries will translate its ambitious goals into concrete policies and real change for communities in the region.
