Driving Circular Economy Through Youth Engagement at COP29

On 6 November 2024, World Resources Forum published an opinion piece by Anupam Khajuria (Research Fellow and Academic Associate, UNU-IAS). It argues that the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP29) is a unique opportunity to inspire and equip the next generation of climate innovators with the knowledge, networks and resources to drive forward efforts to achieve a circular economy.

Integrating circular economy principles into climate action is not only a pathway to sustainability, but also a crucial step toward fostering innovative solutions by engaging young climate enthusiasts. Youth are uniquely positioned to lead these initiatives, offering fresh perspectives, adaptability, and a long-term commitment to the planet’s future. As the leaders and policymakers of tomorrow, their involvement is crucial for sustainable change. COP29 may offer an unparalleled opportunity for young innovators to engage with global leaders, experts, and practitioners, and to contribute to the development of sustainable solutions.
