Media Literacy & Civic Awareness: UNU-EGOV at “Pinocchio at School” Roadshow

The event was a Polígrafo’s roadshow to raise youth awareness on disinformation, governments and social media.

On 28 March 2025, Mariana Lameiras represented UNU-EGOV as an invited speaker at an event organised by Polígrafo, a leading Portuguese fact-checking newspaper. The event, held at Palácio Vila Flor in Guimarães, formed part of the awareness-raising roadshow under the initiative “Pinocchio at school: literacy against disinformation”, a project supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation through the European Media and Information Fund.

Mariana delivered a presentation to High School students from the city of Guimarães under the topic “Populism, Governments and Social Media” that explored the intersection of political discourse and the digital information ecosystem.

Stop. Think before you click. Your action makes a difference when contributing to the mitigation of disinformation.
Mariana Lameiras, Senior Research Analyst

The event gathered representatives from Polígrafo, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the City Council, and local media, fostering a multistakeholder dialogue on the role of youth in combating online misinformation.
