Call for Applications: 2026 ACUNS Annual Workshop on International Organisation Studies

Applications are now open for the 2026 ACUNS Annual Workshop on International Organidation Studies.

UNU-CRIS is co-organising the Annual Workshop on International Organisation Studies with the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS) and Narxoz University in Kazakhstan.

The 2026 workshop titled “The Regional Turn in Global Governance? Regionalism, Multilateralism, and the Future of Shared Global Responsibility” will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The programme runs from June 21st to June 28th, 2026.

The ACUNS Annual Workshop is a highly regarded programme that brings together early-career scholars and practitioners working on the United Nations system, global governance, and multilateralism. Participants will present their research, receive detailed feedback from leading experts, and engage in intensive discussions with peers from around the world.

This year’s theme explores the evolving relationship between regionalism and multilateralism, with a focus on how regional organisations and transregional groupings are reshaping global governance and shared responsibility. The workshop will examine developments across multiple regions and policy areas, including security, climate governance, economic cooperation, and emerging domains such as data and AI governance.

ACUNS invites applications from:

  • Advanced PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty members
  • Mid-level professional staff from the United Nations system and other international or regional organisations

Participation is limited to 20 selected individuals, with a balanced cohort of academics and practitioners.

Application requirements include:

  • A 250-word summary of expertise
  • A 250-word statement on career development
  • A 500-word research proposal
  • A CV (maximum 2 pages)
  • One professional reference

Selected participants will take part in an intensive week-long programme and are expected to submit a full draft of their paper by the end of May 2026. The workshop will contribute to the development of outputs such as policy briefs, academic articles, or edited volumes.
