Aline Vandenbroeck is a Visiting Research Fellow in the Migration and Social Policy Cluster at UNU-CRIS.
She is also a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Economics and the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at Ghent University, supported by a competitive postdoctoral fellowship from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO).
Aline is a health policy scholar whose research examines how public policies shape healthcare access, population health, and well-being. Her work focuses primarily on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and maternal and child health. In her current postdoctoral research, she investigates whether and how SRHR policies and governance at the subnational, national, and international levels shape migration aspirations and decisions in the United States and African contexts. Her work is interdisciplinary, integrating legal epidemiology methods to systematically measure policy and legal environments, causal inference approaches to estimate policy effects, and qualitative methods to understand lived experiences following policy change. Through this work, she seeks to generate rigorous evidence that informs the development of effective and equitable health policies.
Aline holds a PhD in Health Policy and Administration from the University of Illinois Chicago, an MSc in Economics from Ghent University, and a BSc in Economics from the Université libre de Bruxelles. She previously completed a research internship at UNU-CRIS, where she worked with Dr. Ilse Ruyssen on migration-related disparities in healthcare access in The Gambia.
