Driving Sustainable Consumption and Production at the Local Level

Education for Sustainable Development projects from the Global RCE Network

This book features 12 projects from around the world that demonstrate the impact of community-based education on progress towards achieving SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production). Developed by Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCEs), the projects addressed resource efficiency; waste management and minimization; and consumer behaviour.

Through their initiatives, RCEs sought to raise awareness, provide knowledge and skills, and change consumer behaviour towards more sustainable lifestyles. The community-based projects inspired learners to adopt more sustainable practices, including the reduction of waste, conservation of energy, and a more efficient utilization of resources to meet the needs of both current and future generations. In presenting each project, the publication details actions that were taken by the RCE and identifies best practices for multi-stakeholder engagement and action-oriented learning that readers can apply to promote sustainable consumption and production.
