For nearly two decades, Dr. David Daou has been at the forefront of applying advanced computational science to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges. As a Senior Scientist and leader of the AI and Remote Sensing Team at UNU-EHS, his research is dedicated to harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and remote sensing to model disaster risks and assess the impacts of climate change.

Dr. Daou's expertise lies in creating powerful computational models that merge geospatial intelligence with deep learning to forecast floods, droughts and wildfires with unprecedented accuracy. However, his vision extends beyond algorithms. He is a passionate advocate for ethical and sustainable AI, ensuring that the communities on the front lines of climate change are not just subjects of study, but active partners. In his research, he consistently works to integrate local and Indigenous knowledge, building solutions that are not only smart but also just and inclusive.

Since he joined UNU-EHS, he has been a dedicated educator, where his lectures focus on the responsible use of AI and remote sensing, championing the integration of local community knowledge and a strong ethical framework to guide sustainable technological development.
