
The United Nations University Institute in Macau is pleased to announce that Professor Virginia Dignum will join the UNU Macau AI Conference 2025 as a keynote speaker. The conference will take place on 24 October 2025 in Macau, marking both the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and the 50th anniversary of the United Nations University under the theme “AI for Humanity: Building an Equitable Digital Future.”
Professor Dignum is a world-renowned expert in Responsible Artificial Intelligence, serving as Professor and Director of the AI Policy Lab at Umeå University, Sweden. She is also a member of the UN High-Level Advisory Body on AI and Senior Advisor to the Wallenberg Foundations, actively shaping policy and research at the intersection of AI and society.
Her work explores how technology interacts with people and organizations - from ethical reasoning in autonomous systems to agent-based teamwork and simulations of complex socio-technical domains. Her research spans theoretical modeling, methodological design, and practical implementation.
Professor Dignum advises leading global platforms such as UNESCO, GPAI, ALLAI-NL, and the World Economic Forum. She is Program Chair of AAMAS 2024, Ethics Chair of AAAI 2024, a Fellow of the European AI Association (EURAI), and a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences.
