Attaining the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) on “Ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all” is key to the success of many other water-related SDGs. However, reaching the targets under SDG 6 remains a challenge for many countries, first and foremost due to the lack of reliable data on the enabling environment of SDG 6 that allows for evidence-based policies and action to address water and sanitation-related issues.
Against this background, a web-based tool, the SDG 6 Policy Support System (SDG-PSS) was developed to help policymakers, development actors, members of the academia, and scientists to produce evidence that contributes to national policies for water and sanitation issues even under poor data conditions.
This webinar is a follow-up event to two regional workshops held in July 2019 and in September 2019 on using the SDG-PSS for water-related sustainable development in countries in Africa and the Middle East and Asia. The participants of these workshops highlighted that data on SDG 6 is often missing or is fragmented and emphasized the need for strong political will and solid regional and national cooperation to overcome these challenges. They also agreed upon the importance to create and strengthen the enabling environment for effective policy and decision-making on water and sanitation.
The webinar will see the participation of the key actors involved in the creation and implementation of the SDG-PSS with the goal to engage relevant stakeholders to discuss the tool and its use to achieve SDG 6.
