2nd Conference of UNU Hubs in Richmond Hill

Hosted at UNU-INWEH, the conference will showcase progress and shape a coordinated roadmap for research, education and policy impact.

Time
- America/Toronto

The 2nd Conference of UNU Hubs will take place from 31 October to 1 November in Richmon Hill, Ontario at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) headquarters.

Over the course of two days, academic leaders, scientists, and policymakers from around the world will come together to strengthen cooperation and chart a shared roadmap for transformative action. The UNU Hub on Empowering Communities to Adapt to Environmental Change at the University of Calgary, the UNU Hub on Engineering to Face Climate Change at the Hamburg University of Technology, the UNU Hub on Water in a Changing Environment at Lund University, the UNU Hub on Resilient Environment, Agriculture, Climate and Health for Africa at the University of Pretoria and the UNU Hub on Remote-Sensing and Sustainable Innovations for Resilient Urban Systems at the City College of New York will present their achievements and initiatives across their areas of work.

The programme opens with presentations from UNU Hubs on emerging priorities across research, education, and policy engagement, followed by an interactive collaboration session to foster new partnerships and joint initiatives. Through thematic discussions on policy impact, research, and capacity building, participants will explore opportunities to strengthen science-policy engagement, advance interdisciplinary collaboration, and expand educational programmes. The programme also includes a visit to the David Dunlap Observatory, providing an opportunity for informal networking and reflection on the role of scientific institutions in advancing innovation, and evidence-based decision-making.

A UNU Hub is a formal collaboration through which an academic institution collaborates with the United Nations University (UNU) to bridge the gap between academia and the UN system. UNU Hubs offer partner universities a platform for advancing policy-relevant solutions to global challenges and UN priorities through research, capacity-building and outreach.
