Thomas Hale is a political geologist examining how subsurface natural forces shape and challenge geopolitical interests at the surface, with a particular focus on Greenland and the broader Arctic.
He is a Doctoral Student Fellow on Critical Minerals Supply Chains at UNU-INWEH, working on supporting minerals diplomacy to address local and international challenges in extractive negotiations.
His professional background includes working for the U.S. Department of State, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA), and the Geological Society of America.
Mr. Hale is pursuing a PhD in Geography and Spatial Sciences at the University of Delaware. He holds a Master of Arts in Security Policy and Conflict Resolution from George Washington University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a focus on land use planning and mineral resource development.
