Dr. Sanaz Chamanara specializes in sustainability, supply chain management, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. Her work is centered on developing environmentally sustainable and socially responsible supply chains, drawing from tools and concepts from environmental policy, sustainability sciences, supply chain governance, and industrial ecology. At UNU-INWEH, she explores the unintended environmental and justice consequences of Industry 4.0’s technological innovations to recommend solutions for green growth and circular economy, addressing business needs, environmental issues, and societal concerns through holistic approaches and integrated strategies.
Sanaz’s expertise extends to various environmental data sources, including GHG emissions and carbon accounting, carbon neutrality, sustainable energy, biodiversity, materials, waste, and water. She employs both E-LCA (Environmental Life Cycle Assessment) and S-LCA (Social Life Cycle Assessment), to navigate through the complexities of supply chains and foster stakeholder collaboration. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with various governmental agencies, NGOs, and environmental stakeholders, fostering open communication and cooperation to achieve a sustainable and just future.
She has received multiple awards for her research, including the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Award, Rackham Doctoral Dissertation Award, Dow Sustainability Doctoral Fellowship, American Association of University Women (AAUW) International fellowship and THE LAF Honor Scholarship in Memory of Joe Lalli, FASLA.
Sanaz has conducted her post-doctora research at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to that she conducted her PhD studies at the Center for Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she explored the environmental impacts and governance dynamics of supply chains with a spatially-explicit life cycle approach.
