Dr. Mahsa Jessri is a nutritional epidemiologist, registered dietitian, and population-health data scientist whose work applies big-data analytics, microsimulation, AI, and linked health data to nutrition policy, food systems, health equity, and the prevention of diet-related non-communicable diseases.
At UNU-INWEH, Dr. Jessri develops research and analytical tools that connect food systems, dietary patterns, environmental and social determinants, and population-health outcomes. Her work supports UNU-INWEH’s mandate by translating complex nutrition, health, and food-systems data into actionable evidence for governments, communities, and international partners working toward sustainable, equitable, and resilient solutions at the nexus of food and human health.
Dr. Jessri is also Associate Professor in the Food, Nutrition and Health Program at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she holds the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Nutritional Epidemiology for Population Health. She leads the Nutritional Epidemiology for Population Health Laboratory and UBC’s Nutritional Epidemiology and Big Data Analytics Laboratory, and is also core faculty at the UBC Centre for Health Services and Policy Research and an Investigator with BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute.
Dr. Jessri completed a CIHR Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship with Statistics Canada and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, holds a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto as a Vanier Canada Scholar, an MSc in Nutrition and Metabolism from the University of Alberta, and is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia.
