Professor James (Jim) Lutz studies the global applicability of healthy forests to ecosystem and societal well-being.

Professor James (Jim) Lutz studies the global applicability of healthy forests to ecosystem and societal well-being. His interests include the demography and spatial patterns of primary forests, especially the causes of tree death, and how fire shapes old-growth forest communities.

As the Forest and Fire Ecology Lead at UNU-INWEH, Professor Lutz is studies forest ecology and fire ecology to benefit the science-based conservation and management of our natural resources in the face of changing climate, changing land use, and changing human societies.
