Dr Carmen Logie is the Canada Research Chair in Global Health Equity and Social Justice with Marginalized Populations and Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto.
Dr Logie’s research program advances understanding of, and develops interventions to address, stigma and other social-ecological factors associated with health disparities. She is particularly interested in understanding and addressing the convergence of intersectional stigma and other social inequities, including food, housing and water insecurity, and their impacts on sexual, reproductive and mental health. Her current research focuses on HIV/STI prevention, testing and care cascades in Canada, Uganda, Brazil and Jamaica with people living with HIV, refugee and other displaced youth, LGBT communities, Indigenous youth, and persons at the intersection of these identities. She collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) and was a guideline development member for the WHO Consolidated Guidelines on Self-care Interventions for Health: Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights. She also collaborates with the Canadian Public Health Association and the US National Institutes of Health on stigma-related research, policy and guidelines. At UNU-INWEH, Dr Logie contributes to water-related health risks and tools development research.
