The rapid integration of technology has intensified gender inequalities, especially affecting women and girls in terms of digital access, skills, and leadership roles, while exposing them to technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). Despite these issues, few countries have incorporated protections against TFGBV in their policies, and adequate frameworks remain scarce.

This webinar, part of the Ministerial Conference reviewing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, convenes stakeholders from the Asia-Pacific region—including civil society organizations, governments, and researchers—to discuss strategies for enhancing digital security, combating TFGBV, and advancing gender equality through technology. Addressing knowledge and policy gaps, this event is crucial to fostering an inclusive, safe, and equitable digital environment where women and girls can fully participate, free from violence.

Objectives of the session:

  • Discuss the rise of TFGBV in the Asia Pacific region and the challenges linked to achieving consensus on frameworks, definitions and metrics.

  • Draft a call for action based on experiences and interventions from national policymakers, civil society actors, and youth voices on their efforts to combat TFGBV.

  • Identify gaps and opportunities for an inter-ministerial response (evidence-based policy) to ensure digital security for everyone - and in particular, groups that experience intersecting forms of discrimination (women living with disabilities, LGBTQ youth).
