Regional Meeting Forges Path for Americas RCEs

The 13th RCE Americas Regional Meeting focused on developing a comprehensive plan towards the ESD for 2030 initiative.

The 13th Americas RCE Regional Meeting was held on 25–27 September 2024, convening Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the Americas region. It was conducted online, focusing on the theme “Building a Stronger RCE Americas Network towards ESD for 2030 and the RCE Community Roadmap”.   

In opening remarks, Jongwhi Park (Academic Programme Officer, UNU-IAS) highlighted an upcoming publication on action-oriented pedagogy cases implemented by RCEs through community-based ESD. Roger Petry (Regional Advisor to Americas Region RCEs) underscored the importance of RCE collaboration that adheres to governance principles established by RCEs in the region and respects diversity. Diego Adamson (RCE Cuenca del Plata) presented the results of a survey of RCE Americas Network (RCEAN) members, which identified priority and strategic action areas, as well as contributions of RCE projects to achieving the SDGs. Oriana Silva (Youth Coordinator for Americas Region RCEs) provided updates on the nomination of two regional youth coordinators to ensure representation across the diverse Americas region. 

The meeting was organized by RCE Cuenca del Plata (Argentina), RCE Curitiba-Paraná (Brazil) and RCE Salisbury (USA).
