This special event at the 2023 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will highlight the critical role of higher education in achieving sustainable development, focusing on understanding the challenges and opportunities to accelerate the recovery from COVID-19 and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda at all levels.

With the goal of building a higher education sector that is accessible to all and leaves no one behind, the event will highlight and boost key higher education initiatives that drive implementation of the 2030 Agenda through education, teaching, and learning — particularly around the SDGs under review at HLPF. It will spotlight the levers of sector transformation, including cross-institutional partnerships, evolving practices in higher education quality metrics and academic publications, and increased demand for green jobs.

The event will feature a keynote address by UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala. UNU-IAS students will participate in a student-led panel through an online “viewing party”.
