As part of the Write. Review. Publish. Webinar Series on Academic Publishing, the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) is organizing the ninth webinar, centred on how to further strengthen research integrity with AI-assisted analysis.

The session will take place on October 6th, at 14h00 (Lisbon Time | UTC+1). The guest is Adegboyega Ojo, Canada Research Chair in Governance and Artificial Intelligence at Carleton University.

Seminar Overview

AI is increasingly used to support and accelerate scientific research, with impressive and, in some cases, groundbreaking results. At the same time, journal editors and editorial teams across disciplines are voicing growing frustration over the unethical use of AI in conducting and publishing research. These practices raise serious concerns about research integrity and threaten the trustworthiness of the scientific enterprise as a whole, reflecting wider debates about AI safety. In this talk, Adegboyega Ojo argues that ethical use of AI, designed in from the start rather than added as an afterthought, can both strengthen research integrity and open new pathways to accelerated discovery. Our speaker will draw on findings from ongoing experiments with AI-assisted qualitative research in his lab.
