Miguel Moreno is a Research Fellow at UNU-CRIS

Miguel Moreno is a Mexican Postdoctoral Researcher at UNU-CRIS, working within the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster and the Groundwater Group at the Department of Water and Climate of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Through a one-year UNU-CRIS fellowship, Miguel will foster collaborative efforts between the two institutions and international partners in Europe and Latin America. His work focuses on groundwater-based adaptation strategies for cross-border water governance and social resilience—particularly in relation to food security and migration—in the context of drought in the Central American Dry Corridor.

As part of this fellowship, he will lead multiple engagement activities, including workshops, roundtables, and the publication of technical reports, all aimed at supporting a forthcoming UNU CRIS - VUB proposal for the development of capacity-building actions with partners in Central America to tackle drought impacts.

Miguel has six years of experience in the drinking water sector, supporting vulnerable Mayan communities in Yucatán, Mexico. He was previously a member of the INOWAS Research Group on Managed Aquifer Recharge at TU Dresden and currently collaborates on several international projects, including the Horizon project NATALIE, Project GROW, and CENOTEANDO, among others.
