UNU at COP29

The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was convened in Baku, Azerbaijan from 11–22 November 2024.

UNU contributions to COP29 were key in helping countries and stakeholders understand how we can accelerate and finance action to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and how we can ensure vulnerable populations are prioritized in mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change.

Throughout COP29, UNU institutes and experts organized and participated in events in Baku and online, as well as contributed research commentary and publications.

UNU-EHS & UNU-VIE at COP29

From climate finance and climate mobility to loss and damage, frontier technologies and capacity-building, UNU-EHS expertise cut across many of COP29’s most urgent themes. UNU-VIE also led the Capacity-building Academy at the 6th Capacity-building Hub.

UNU-IAS experts organized events and contributed policy inputs and media commentary throughout the conference.

UNU-MERIT experts joined events with partners and UNU institutes throughout the conference.
