Is it surprising that biology labs are filling up with "techies"?
After all, life is information and organisms are programs written in digital. The Omics revolution has opened the door to faster, massive access to the terabytes of data in genomes, transcriptomes, and proteomes, and Latin America needs to equip professionals to obtain, clean, and interpret it.
The course Genomics applied to One Health aimed to contribute to fulfilling this demand by giving participants the opportunity of hands-on training in the latest technologies for genomic analysis and full integration with transcriptomic and proteomic data. The course, which focused on pathogens and parasites as model organisms, used a One Health approach to extend knowledge beyond single genomes and to give trainees the tools to apply it for the sake of human, animal, and environmental health.
We congratulate Dr. Laura Kamenetzky for her excellent coordination and academic work year after year, and thank the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, UBA, not only for hosting the activity but also for providing the necessary equipment and technical support for this regional imperative.
