The Annual WIDER Development Conferences, play a key role in realizing UNU-WIDER's priorities for creating, strengthening and exchanging knowledge. These annual global events, which bring together the UNU-WIDER network connecting researchers and policymakers from across the globe serve as a platform for effective translation, brokering and promotion of research and policy analysis.

The series of WIDER Development Conferences that have taken place since 2001 have become an especially valuedway for developing country nationals to engage with the larger development community, which is often otherwisechallenging for them to achieve. UNU-WIDER uses its resources to cover their participation, including travel, hotel andsubsistence.

UNU-WIDER will continue to organize one or two WIDER Development Conferences per year as part of the Institute’s2019-23 work programme. It is planned that on average one of these conferences will be organized in the GlobalSouth providing the opportunity for increased engagement of the local academic and policy community as well asadditional experiences and lessons for South-South and North-South exchange.
