Sofia Dominguez is an Associate Economic Affairs Officer in the Division on International Trade and Commodities at UN Trade and Development and a dual-career PhD fellow at UNU-MERIT and Maastricht University.

Sofia is an economist with a research interest in the interplay between economic complexity and large migratory movements, particularly in the context of Venezuelan migration into Colombia.

Since 2022, she has worked at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UN Trade and Development) in Geneva, with a focus on value addition and export diversification in commodity-dependent countries.

Most recently, she has contributed to technical cooperation projects that apply economic complexity metrics to identify export diversification opportunities in countries across Latin America and Southern Africa.

She holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Warwick
