Rodrigo Ito is a Doctoral Fellow with three affiliations at UNU-MERIT, Maastricht University and University of Campinas.

Rodrigo’s work is at the intersection of public policy, economics of science, and development economics. Specifically, he examines the role of mobile scientists in contributing to the internationalization and performance of scientific systems in developing countries. He also investigates the scientific collaboration between members of the scientific diaspora and collaborators in the sending countries. He applies quantitative and qualitative methods in his research.

During his PhD, Rodrigo has worked as a lecturer at Maastricht University and as an external consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank.
