Differential Impact Assessment/Analysis is an in-depth assessment disaggregated by gender and age group. This approach aims to capture the holistic human lived experiences and reveal the often-hidden gender-specific effects of water- and climate-related practices, services, events, actions or interventions. Without this type of data, gender differences can be overlooked, leading to incomplete or inaccurate representations of the population. In this Science Talk, Professor Grace Oluwasanya will discuss the critical role of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in global development and its intersection with gendered health impacts. She will explain how differential impact analysis can be used to assess gender-specific health outcomes in WASH programs. Using a real-world case study, she will illustrate the gendered health impacts and demonstrate the effectiveness of differential impact analysis. Additionally, she will discuss the implications for policy and practice, emphasizing how this analysis can lead to more equitable and effective WASH interventions.
