Dr. Taher Kahil conducts integrated hydrological-economic assessments to guide the selection and design of water management policies that ensure water security for all in the face of future climate and socio-economic changes.
As an Associate Research Professor in Water Economics and Policy at UNU-INWEH, Dr. Kahil focuses on advancing research in integrated water supply and demand assessment. His work aims to identify economically feasible solutions that address water scarcity, improve water quality, and enhance resilience to extreme events. He also collaborates with key stakeholders at various levels to translate scientific research into policy.
His research interests include integrated water resource modeling for basin-scale water policy analysis, the economics of water allocation and water quality, and the evaluation of adaptation policy interventions in response to global changes in water and agriculture.
Dr. Kahil has a PhD in Economics from the University of Zaragoza and is the Leader of the Water Security Research Group at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
