Professor Sarah Null’s research and teaching focus on addressing the potential to protect aquatic ecosystems while maintaining water resource benefits for people. Recent research trajectories include 1) tradeoffs between human and environmental water uses, 2) hydroclimate change and adaptations, and 3) environmental water management for saline lake preservation.
As the Environmental Water Management Lead at UNU-INWEH, Professor Null will lead a new research initiative that integrates multiple disciplines including drought and wet period management, dam construction/removal, reservoir re-operations, water use efficiency for ecosystems and habitats, climate change adaptation, and water quality management and monitoring.
She is a Professor of Watershed Sciences at Utah State University (USA). She has been awarded a CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation and sole-PI STAR from the US Environmental Protection Agency. Professor Null’s work has been highlighted in diverse media outlets including The New York Times, Science Magazine, National Geographic, and BBC Newsday.
She was named the 2021-2022 CalTrout Ecosystem Fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California’s Water Policy Center and is part of a multi-disciplinary team synthesizing cutting-edge research for policy-makers to address lake level decline in Utah’s Great Salt Lake.
