Prof. Mark Maslin is a globally-recognized scientist focused on understanding the Anthropocene and the major challenges facing humanity in the 21st century.
As the Lead on Climate, Health and Security at UNU-INWEH, Prof. Maslin develops innovative research initiatives at this critical nexus, facilitated by his unique expertise, strategic high-level partnerships, and experience in accruing funding from a variety of streams.
In addition to his role at UNU-INWEH, Prof. Maslin serves as a Professor of Earth System Science at University College London (UCL). He has published over 220 papers in journals such as Science, Nature, and The Lancet, has written 10 books and over 100 wide-reaching articles, and regularly appears on radio and television. His books include ‘Climate Change: A Very Short Introduction’ (2021), ‘The Cradle of Humanity’ (2019), ‘The Human Planet’ with Simon Lewis (2018), and ‘How to Save Our Planet: the Facts’ (2021). Prof. Maslin was made a Royal Society Industrial Fellow (U.K.) in 2012 and was granted a Wolfson Research Merit Scholarship in 2011 for his work on East Africa.
Prof. Maslin holds an honours BSc from the University of Bristol’s Department of Geography and a PhD from the University of Cambridge’s Department of Earth Sciences.
