Satoyama Forum Featured in Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun

Summaries published in Japanese newspapers highlight efforts to progress satoyama model for sustainable living and biodiversity conservation.

On 22 January 2024, the Asahi Shimbun and the Yomiuri Shimbun, two leading newspapers in Japan, published summaries of the Satoyama forum, an event supported by UNU-IAS on 12 December 2023. The term satoyama refers to landscapes where people and nature coexist in harmony. 

The reports cover the contents of speeches, presentations and panel discussions during the event, including remarks by Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi (Director, UNU-IAS) and a presentation by Rina Miyake (Programme Coordinator, UNU-IAS). Prof. Yamaguchi introduced the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) and underlined interconnections between the health of people and of the environment. Rina Miyake shared various IPSI activities and case studies.
