Climate Action Talk Highlights Cambodia's Long-Term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality

UNU-IAS hosted a Climate Action Talk with Mao Hak of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia.

On 24 January 2022 UNU-IAS hosted a Climate Action Talk with Mao Hak to discuss Cambodia’s action plan to accelerate decarbonisation. Mr Hak (Director, Department of Climate Change of the General Directorate of Policy and Strategy of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia) outlined his country’s Long-Term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality recently submitted to the UNFCCC. The event was moderated by Akio Takemoto (Programme Head, UNU-IAS) and co-organised by the Global Environmental Outreach Centre.

The speakers reflected on the achievements of COP26. Mr Hak shared Cambodia’s experiences in developing policies and other road map documents, and facilitating coordination among ministries to mainstream climate action. He also highlighted the importance of education in building capacity of researchers and policy makers to accelerate climate change negotiations, commending the UNU-IAS initiative to develop a postgraduate degree specialisation on the Paris Agreement.

A recording of the session is available on the GEOC YouTube Channel:
