Innovation and Education to Foster the Transition to a Circular Economy

An op-ed in The Japan Times explores the crucial role of innovation and education in accelerating the transition to a circular economy.

On 22 July 2024, The Japan Times published an opinion piece by Anupam Khajuria (Research Fellow and Academic Associate, UNU-IAS) highlighting the role of innovation and education in driving the transition to a circular economy forward.  

Exploring initiatives from various regions of the globe, the piece argues that by implementing circular economy principles, we can make better progress on responsible consumption and production, climate action and economic growth.  

Excerpt: 

Over the past decade, we have learned a lot about what can be done to transition to a circular economy. By educating people and investing in new technologies, we can establish a foundation for sustainable practices and scale solutions up. However, the journey continues and will require lifelong learning, adaptation, collaboration and a focus on education, innovation and regional strategies.
