Article in The Diplomat Features Comments by UNU-IAS Youth Delegate at COP29

The article explores hopes and expectations of youth from Asia and the Pacific attending the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference.

On 19 November 2024, The Diplomat published an article exploring the hopes and expectations of youth from Asia and the Pacific attending COP29.

It features comments by Nanako Kaji (student, Izumigaoka High School, Japan) who attended COP29 as part of the UNU-IAS delegation. The Diplomat is a magazine focusing on current affairs in the Asia-Pacific region.

Excerpt:

For Nanako Kaji, a 16-year-old high school student from Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture attending her first COP as a delegate from the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, the chance to go to COP29 was a “valuable opportunity to participate” and meet other young people working in climate diplomacy. Like Chaney, she saw COP29 as an opening to learn about the climate crisis, lessons she’d take back home to build coalitions within her communities.
