Tomoko Yamamoto is a Programme Associate for the Biodiversity and Society Programme.

She began her career as a consultant in Japan, managing various domestic projects in landscape planning, participatory planning, and urban and regional development. She joined the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where she worked on Official Development Assistance projects primarily in Asia, focusing on urban development, as well as reconstruction planning and building management.

Most recently, she was dispatched as a JICA expert on a capacity development project for urban development in Lao PDR. In this role, she worked alongside Lao counterparts to establish and operate a cross-sectoral discussion mechanism for sustainable urban development in the capital city, Vientiane. She also provided advice on the construction permit system and land use. 

Ms. Yamamoto holds a BEng in Design Management from Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan.
