On 29 April at 20:00 (GMT+8) the Gender and Health Seminar Series will present "Vaccines to Vaccinations: Gender in Promoting Immunisation", a discussion with Nina Schwalbe, Founder and Principal at Spark Street Consulting. The event is a collaboration of the UNU International Institute for Global Health, the Lancet Commission on Gender and Global Health, and the Gender and Health Hub.
The seminar will review the cost of gender inequity in COVID-19 response, focusing on vaccination. More than a year into COVID-19 vaccine deployment less than 50 countries are regularly reporting gender-disaggregated data. The event will examine topics ranging from policy to practice and focus on the issues related to data reporting and collection, why international agencies are not mandating gender-disaggregated data, and what strategies could be used to change this.
The event will also unpack some of the reasons for gender disparities in coverage including workforce vaccination priorities (e.g. health care workers versus military), the impact of rumours of vaccine effects on fertility or breastfeeding, and other gender barriers that inhibit children from being vaccinated.
