UNU-FLORES Broadens Research Horizons Through Participation in Two New Excellence Clusters

The new CARE and REC² Clusters offer UNU-FLORES opportunities to advance interdisciplinary research through the Resource Nexus approach.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Science and Humanities Council have announced the Clusters of Excellence to receive funding from 2026.

Of the five proposals awarded to the Dresden University of Technology, a valued partner of UNU-FLORES and a University of Excellence, UNU-FLORES will contribute to two Clusters:

  1. CARE: Climate-Neutral and Resource-Efficient Construction

  2. REC²: Responsible Electronics in the Climate-Change Era

These Clusters address some of the most pressing global challenges and provide a platform for UNU-FLORES to further our Resource Nexus research within interdisciplinary frameworks.

Prof. Edeltraud Guenther, Director of UNU-FLORES, remarks:

This is a significant opportunity for UNU-FLORES to integrate the Resource Nexus in key research areas, aligned with UNU’s new strategy with three key pillars of Knowledge, Partnerships, and Impact.
