A joint report by UNU-FLORES and CIPSEM

The Textile Sector in Pakistan

Contributing 8.5 percent to GDP and employing percent of the workforce, Pakistan’s textile sector plays a vital role in the country’s economy. The exposure visit focused on promoting sustainable practices, introducing circular materials, and enhancing cooperation between Pakistani and German stakeholders.

About the Report

This report captures lessons learned and best practices exchanged during an August 2024 visit — part of an eight-year EU-funded WWF-Pakistan project advancing international labour and environmental standards in Pakistan’s textile and leather industries.

UNU-FLORES and Textile Sustainability

Building on prior initiatives like a Bangladesh-focused textile seminar in Dresden, UNU-FLORES continues to drive sustainability discourse in the textile industry through courses, seminars, and the Resource Nexus lens.
