The Master's Programme in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security welcomes students from all over the world. They bring unique experiences that enrich the programme, which is focused on preparing the next generation of climate and environment leaders.
For current student Elisha Darko of Ghana, the journey is shaped by the loss of a friend during a flood and the experience of environmental challenges back home. He has channeled those experiences into a passion for caring for the environment, a career as a geography teacher, leadership of a youth-led environmental organization and now his studies as a master’s student at UNU-EHS and the University of Bonn.
He recently sat down with UN News for an interview about his journey and his studies in Bonn and how he intends to use his skills and knowledge.
Speaking about his motivation to empower climate action, Darko said: “I want to be out there. I want to be able to make an impact, and I want to be able to support the global drive to achieve resilience to climate change, because it is affecting people."
"I don’t want to lose someone to climate change again," he said.
