Sylvain works part-time as a Visiting Scientist within the Climate Analytics team, under the supervision of Maxime Souvignet and Robert Oakes. Together, they developed a consortium focused on displacement risk modeling and continuously explore ways to improve the model, including integrating new hazards and refining vulnerability assessments linked to human mobility, and impacts.
Sylvain is a geographer and program coordinator with over 20 years of experience in international organizations, where he has consistently bridged science, technology and policy, to advance peacebuilding, resilience and sustainable development. His career spans multi-disciplinary projects at the intersection of disaster risk in a changing climate and data innovation, with a focus on turning complex challenges into actionable, scalable solutions.
From 2017 to 2025, at the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), he led qualitative and statistical analyses on disaster displacement in a changing climate, providing actionable insights for policymakers.
Previously, as an Information Specialist at the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) for nearly 13 years, he contributed to developing global metrics for tracking international framework implementation, producing assessment reports and supporting software development and national disaster damage accounting.
A firm believer in the power of open knowledge and collaborative action, Sylvain co-founded KASA-Lab in 2026, as a Swiss non-profit organization. Through KASA-Lab, he seeks to democratize data, foster interdisciplinary dialogue and drive innovation in how societies address systemic risks.
He holds a Master II in "Interface Nature-Society" from University Lyon 2 and is fluent in French and English, and learning Japanese.
