Dr. Anwesha Maharana is a Visiting Scientist at UNU-EHS and an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow specializing in Space Weather at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. She brings physics-based modelling expertise to climate risk analytics for designing effective climate adaptation strategies and providing policy insights for climate finance.
Trained as a physicist, her work focuses on data-driven modelling and observational data analysis, with a growing emphasis on applying these skills to climate change adaptation and sustainability challenges. Having trained as a Climate Action Fellow from Terra.do, she has also contributed to climate analytics and evidence-based policy advisory.
Her emerging research lies at the intersection of climate change, human health and policy, and she has experience assessing government action plans and developing insights into climate resilience with ASAR India. She is particularly interested in the science-policy interface, climate risk communication and the role of data and finance in supporting effective adaptation strategies. Alongside her research, she has collaborated with civil society organizations such as the Socratus Foundation India, contributing to narrative building, programme design and multi-stakeholder engagement to strengthen public discourse on climate issues.
Dr. Maharana has authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented her work at international conferences. She is also an educator and frequently partakes in science communication, with a strong interest in capacity-building and training initiatives that empower diverse stakeholders to engage with climate challenges.
