Alok is a current Master's student at UNU-EHS and the University of Bonn, from Mauritius. He is joining the GLOMOS team at UNU-EHS as a student assistant, working on a project assessing Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems in four Indian Ocean countries.

Alok grew up in Mauritius, and has lived in India, the United States and China, before moving to Germany for his Master’s degree. He has previously studied at UWC Mahindra College in India, where he designed a community-based early warning system for bushfires, then earned his Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences from Brown University. He has worked in environmental consulting, focusing on renewable energy and waste management projects. He also has experience in education as well as software development and GIS. His diverse experience and background shaped him into an analytical and critical thinker and a driven problem-solver. He is especially interested in using Risk information and Early Warning Systems to help island nations (SIDS) rise to the challenges of increasingly frequent and severe hazards.
