As part of the Write. Review. Publish. Webinar Series on Academic Publishing, the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) is organizing the eighth webinar, dedicated to exploring the roles of peer reviewers, editorial board members, and editors.

Seminar Overview
James L. Perry's role as a peer reviewer, editorial board member, and editor began when he was a graduate student, in the early 1970s. These roles, particularly the role of journal editor, have changed during his career. Although he may comment on how editorial roles were performed in the distant past, our guest will mostly share his understanding of how these roles are successfully and meaningfully performed as we understand them today.

James L. Perry is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University, Bloomington. From 2012 through 2017, he was Editor-in-Chief of Public Administration Review (PAR), the premier global professional journal in public administration. He is currently co-editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Public Administration.
Perry has edited three editions of the Handbook of Public Administration, most recently in 2015 (with Robert Christensen, Jossey-Bass). The Handbook is a leading comprehensive resource for public professionals. In 2020, he edited the Public Service and Good Governance for the Twenty-first Century (U of Penn Press), in collaboration with the Volcker Alliance. His newest book is Managing Organizations to Sustain Passion for Public Service (Cambridge University Press, 2021), a synthesis of 30 years of research on public service and prosocial motivation.
Perry's leadership in public administration is exemplified by many recognitions received during his career, including the Dwight Waldo Award for career contributions to public administration, the H. George Frederickson Award for career contributions from the Public Management Research Association, the John Gaus Award from the American Political Science Association for a lifetime of exemplary scholarship in the joint tradition of political science and public administration, and the Routledge Prize for outstanding contributions to public management research from the International Research Society for Public Management. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
