UNU-EGOV Hosts International Youth Group as Part of Erasmus+ Training on Political Literacy

The visit was part of a broader training initiative on political literacy and inclusion.

On Tuesday, 9 July, UNU-EGOV welcomed a group of 33 youth workers (aged 18 and over) from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Romania and Hungary, as part of the Erasmus+ project “Youth Empowerment Through Political Literacy”, coordinated by Palavras Infinitas – Núcleo de Inclusão, Comunicação e Media (Guimarães).

The visit was part of a broader training initiative on political literacy and inclusion and offered participants the opportunity to engage directly with an institution working at the intersection of research, policy, and digital governance.

The session began with a welcome and overview of UNU-EGOV presented by Elisabete Simões, Head of Administration, followed by two inspiring talks. Viktorija Jordanoska introduced participants to career pathways within the United Nations system, highlighting the values, opportunities and responsibilities of working in an international organization like UNU-EGOV, and encouraging participants to remain ambitious and open to global careers.

Bushra Ebadi led a talk on “Youth Rights in the Digital Age: Social Movements and Political Literacy”, examining a range of challenges and risks faced by young people in digital spaces, from surveillance and content takedowns to privacy breaches, algorithmic discrimination, and misinformation. She also explored the role of storytelling as a tool for resistance, inclusion and the safeguarding of cultural and rights-based narratives.

This meaningful exchange highlighted the critical role of youth in shaping democratic, inclusive and safe digital futures.
