Yesterday, Lisbon hosted the Interoperable Europe Roadshow. The event was held at the Oceanário de Lisboa and was organized by AMA (Administrative Modernization Agency) and the European Commission - DG DIGIT.
With the Interoperable Europe Regulation (EU) fully in force as of last month, establishing measures to enhance cross-border interoperability of trans-European digital public services, coordinating national public entities is crucial to addressing the challenges of its implementation. The event convened representatives from 45 Portuguese public administration entities to ensure alignment and collaboration in tackling the regulation’s implementation challenges, along with participants for UNU-EGOV such as Delfina Soares, Director of UNU-EGOV; Mariana Lameiras, Senior Research Analyst; João Martins, Junior Research Associate and Luís Nuno Barbosa, Research Assistant. Also present were, Sofia Mota, President of the Administrative Modernization Agency (AMA), Leontina Sandu, Head of Unit - Interoperability and Digital Government and members of the European Commission delegation, including Claudia Oliveira, Programme Manager - IOPEU Monitoring Mechanism, European Commission and Georges Lobo, Programme Manager - EU Policies, European Commission.
During the event, European Commission representatives provided an overview of the EU digital regulatory landscape, covering eIDAS 2, the AI Act, the Data Act, the Data Governance Act, the Open Data Directive, and the Interoperable Europe Act. The discussions emphasized the significance of cross-border interoperability for efficient public digital services. Additionally, the new Interoperability Monitoring Mechanism (IoP MM) was highlighted. Developed through a co-creation process involving DG DIGIT (Directorate-General for Digital Services of the European Commission), the Joint Research Center, and volunteering countries, this monitoring mechanism is scheduled for implementation this year in a partially automated process.
The event also featured the Portugal Interoperability Showcase, where representatives from AMA, the Directorate-General for Economic Activities, the Institute of Registries and Notary, and the Directorate-General for Higher Education presented successful examples of interoperability in various public administration sectors.
Participation of the Portugal EGOV Index Team
The Portugal EGOV Index project team attended the event to stay up to date with the latest developments in interoperability and to understand the new monitoring and evaluation mechanism. The team actively engaged in networking activities and participated in discussions regarding the relevance, impact, and methodological transparency of the new interoperability monitoring instrument.
